Bulldog Harriers Begin 2014 Campaign!
The Bulldogs have gotten off to a rocky start this season due to a myriad of injuries hitting the varsity squad, including a stress fracture to #1 Mark Bond, a bone chip in Brandon Britton's foot, IT band syndrome for Devon Boone, shin splints for Seth Webster. It's early in the season, though, and the Bulldogs will be fighting back. Despite these setbacks, the dogs have had some very impressive individual performances, especially from junior Hari Sathyamurthy, who has broken the five-minute barrier in his hokum mile repeats. The team has also had some promising results from its contingent of freshman. With the 5K season right around the corner, the team looks to get healthy, stronger, and have great results!

2014 Summer, Start of Season Info.
BULLDOG X-COUNTRY
SUMMER CONDITIONING: We will have voluntary conditioning practices
beginning Thursday, June 12 so we
can ready for a successful season in the fall.
They will be held Monday through Friday at the following times: 6:00
p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday & Thursday; 9 AM until 10:15 AM or so Monday,
Wednesday, & Friday at (Blastoff
Playground). We will meet in a shelter
at the back of the park. Attendance is
strongly encouraged.
FIRST PRACTICE: The 1st mandatory practice will be
Monday, August 5 from 3:10 PM until 4:45
PM at school. You MUST have a
physical on file with the athletic dept. prior to this practice, or you may
drop it off to Coaches Neylon or Eakle at practice. You may pick up all forms from the high
school athletic dept. or from Coach Neylon. Do
not schedule vacations over fall break. (We have varsity meets)
Camp: We will have our day camps at Brown County
State Park on the days of
July 26 & 28. These are day camps, but most everyone will spend 2 or 3
nights in tents with parental supervision.
More information will be provided later.
SUMMER MILEAGE: Keep in mind that you will be much more
successful if you put in many miles over the summer. Getting together with your
teammates and coming to conditioning will make this much easier and more
fun. Make sure you keep track of your mileage all summer. Our mileage competition, with awards at
season’s end, begins JULY 4. Turn in your mileage at our first practice.
Parent Volunteers: Part of our success comes from the help of the
parents, from helping at camp
to being our main fans at the
meets. We could use help in the following areas:
·
volunteer coordinator
·
snacks for meets
·
locker decorations
·
end of season banquet
We will have sign-up sheets
at our early-season parent meeting as well as e-mails requesting your help.
** We will have meets
during fall break. Absences from these meets
will
be unexcused. Please schedule outings after 2 p.m. Saturdays.
** Call Coach Neylon if you
have any questions at 286-3355 or e-mail at

Tournament Recap
The boys' cross-country team had a very eventful fall
break of tournament races, beginning with a runner-up finish in the
Sectionals. The team ran very well, highlighted
by the individual sectional champion Mark Bond.
Hari Sathyamurthy ran to a 6th place finish as well.
Next up for the Dogs was the Regional Championship, where
the team ran incredibly and placed 3rd behind Zionsville and Avon. Amazingly, all seven varsity boys ran
personal best times on the wet and soggy Ben Davis course, led once again with
a convincing victory by Mark Bond. The performance of the day, however, went to
sophomore Hari Sathyamurthy, who was the runner-up with a mind boggling 1 minute
personal record! He was followed by Elijah Wagner, Seth Webster, Marcus Fierek,
Brandon Britton, and Jack Thomas.
The top 20 teams in the Semistate went to battle last
Saturday, with the Bulldogs coming home in a very impressive 9th place finish,
only 3 spots out of qualifying for the state finals. The support of the junior
varsity Bulldog crazies helped to spur the boys on to a great race. The Dogs were led by Sathyamurthy but also
had extremely strong races from Webster and Britton. The boys end their season with a strong
record of 103 wins versus 72 losses.

2013 REGIONALS RECAP
The boys' cross-country team came into regional action
Saturday morning at Ben Davis High School as the #5 seeded team but came home
in 3rd place after an incredible performance on the rainsoaked course. All seven of the Bulldog harriers set
all-time personal record times over the 5K distance to easily outdistance
fourth-place Ritter and fifth-place Ben Davis.
Zionsville and Avon claimed the top two spots, but the fireworks on the
morning were reserved for the 1-2 individual finishes of regional champion Mark
Bond and regional runner-up Hari Sathyamurthy of Brownsburg. Bond ran away from the competition midway
through the race, and Sathyamurthy closed fast to crush his personal record by
a full one minute! Elijah Wagner, Seth Webster, and Marcus Fierek closed out
the scoring positions for the Dogs, while Brandon Britton and Jack Thomas added
crucial depth. This finish moves the team on to the semistate championships
next Saturday in Carmel.
